As we enter a new era for Cal State LA, this website will chronicle President Berenecea Johnson Eanes’ engagements and initiatives during her first 100 days in office. Check back regularly to join the president on her journey as she becomes acquainted with the Cal State LA community.

Berenecea Johnson Eanes
The California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Berenecea Johnson Eanes to serve as president of California State University, Los Angeles. Her tenure began January 8, 2024. Eanes is the university’s ninth president. She is the first woman to serve in the position.
“I am honored to join this outstanding university and its vibrant and diverse campus community,” Eanes said. “I look forward to engaging and collaborating with Cal State LA’s talented students, staff and faculty to continue the institution’s journey to new heights in student success, research, scholarship and creative activity, and community engagement.”

Golden Eagles welcome Incoming President Berenecea Johnson Eanes
A New Golden Eagle
Dear Golden Eagle Family:
Happy New Year! I’m so thrilled to finally be here on campus as your president. Since September when the CSU Board of Trustees announced my appointment, you have been in my thoughts, plans, and heart. Today marks Day One of an exciting new chapter where we innovate and create new initiatives, all while respecting and building on the lessons and successes of the presidents who came before me and their tremendous contributions to the Cal State LA story. I’m especially grateful to Interim President Leroy M. Morishita for his leadership over the last six months. Thus, while a new chapter begins today, we are not starting with a blank page. We’ll build on a tradition of excellence and we will fortify, expand, and evolve together.

With students and faculty returning to campus in late January, February 2024 began the first full month of President Eanes’ first 100 days at Cal State LA. Along with her 100 Days of Listening tour, February also marked the start of Black History Month and Lunar New Year.

Lunar New Year Festival

California Volunteers

Román joined President Berenecea Johnson Eanes at Cal State LA to announce the recruitment of thousands of people throughout L.A. County to join the paid California Service Corps, the largest service force in the nation. During the March 23 press conference, President Eanes underscored the importance of the #CaliforniansForAll College Corps program and how its transformative impact extends well beyond the University.

Olympic Judo Week

Alumni Awards Gala

Game Show Program

Photos: Cal State LA announced the launch of a new game show curriculum during the university’s 25th anniversary celebration of the Golden Eagle Film Festival. As the first program of its kind in the nation, this ground-breaking sequence of classes will make game shows the focus of academic study.
